Islamabad: The government has issued a 2022 deadline for the implementation of a ‘Pakistan Single Window (PSW)’ system – to be developed at an estimated cost of USD 67 million – in a bid to streamline the cross-border trade of goods and regulatory bottlenecks, according to a news source published on July 15.

The system is being introduced to comply with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) provisions and aims to facilitate ease of doing business and enhance controls through the ‘integrated risk management’.
A customs official has revealed that the first phase of the PSW system, which will be prepared by the year’s end, to cover 80% volume of various permits, licences, certificates and other documents which are now issued to regulate the trade.

The initiative will include segmented establishment of an Information and Communications Technology (ICT)-based platform that’s concerned with harmonisation, simplification, and automation of the regulatory process of the cross-border movement of goods.
Earlier, the government introduced the PSW Bill 2020, which was developed with consensus of concerned stakeholder, for the parliament’s approval in June.
