Islamabad: The Ministry for Climate Change is considering a proposal to hire expatriate Pakistanis – rendered unemployed due to the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic – as ‘jungle workers’, according to a news source published on July 20.

The proposal especially concerns expatriates in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. As per the proposal, the government will obtain data of the expatriate Pakistanis from relevant ministries and hire them as jungle workers on an immediate basis.

Reportedly, the plantation drive is already underway on some 20,000 acres of land in Islamabad and other parts of the country – where thousands of people are earning livelihoods as jungle workers. These workers are executing various types of work like plantation of saplings, nurseries’ establishment and increasing tree cover by preventing deforestation and fire incidents.

Meanwhile, the official data revealed that the federal government is acquiring a loan from international donor agencies to fund additional Clean and Green Pakistan initiatives.
