Islamabad: The government has carried out a detailed analysis of the existing seven special economic zones (SEZs) in the country in a bid to revive these locations (specialised for commercial activity), a news source reported.

Board of Investment (BoI) Chairman Haroon Sharif expressed his views on the matter during a meeting of the approval committee on SEZs in Islamabad on Wednesday.
BoI Executive Director General Fareena Mazhar, Director General China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Syed Hamid Ali, and other officials concerned were all present at the occasion.

The BoI chairman said that time bound plans for utility provisions are being finalised to address the major obstacles that hinder progress of these SEZs.
He regretted that most of the special economic zones have been turned into real estate commodities. He said that the government would introduce new policies to discourage this practice.

Moreover, he directed the departments concerned to create best competitive models for industrial development concerning the SEZs as per the instructions communicated by the federal government.
