Islamabad: The federal government is working up a plan to promote eco-tourism in 12 ecological zones – ranging from the highest (country) point of the K2 mountain down to those sites that are positioned at the sea level, according to a news source published on September 14. As per the details of this arrangement, the locals of these areas are expected to receive 75% of the revenue and up to 80% of the employment opportunities anticipated through this initiative.

As per the details, these ecological zones will be developed by the government to provide cooperation and facilities in line with the best international eco-tourism practices, and steps will be taken to meet the globally-established criteria to oversee and manage operations.

To this effect, the government has earmarked PKR 4 billion and 92% of these funds are to be spent on nature-related jobs and boosting local livelihoods through community engagement. Moreover, the local community living in proximity to these ecologicial zones will be given an opportunity to help manage these zones.
