Islamabad: The government will undertake the construction of the Karachi Northern Bypass and the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, according to a news source.
Communications Minister Murad Saeed relayed this information to the members of the National Assembly (NA) during a recent question hour session. He revealed that the 56 KM-long bypass would be dualised. The concerned authority has also initiated the process to hire consultants for the project.
Saeed stated that this project would be funded through private-public partnership, or by the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). Once the authorities have hired contractors and consultants, the construction work would begin. The expected timeline for this project to start is by the end of 2019.
He further added that the Communications Ministry is working with the provincial governments to create an implementation mechanism for a National Road Safety Policy. He also briefed the assembly about the various repair & construction efforts underway on different projects being developed under the aegis of the National Highway Authority (NHA).
