Islamabad: A government think-tank comprising several of the country’s top financial experts has identified six major domains of the national economy on which it plans to conduct research, a news source reported. Advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh expressed his views on the matter during a meeting held on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the finance ministry, these domains include social safety nets such as ehsaas, food security, enhancing roles of banks, affordable housing projects, making the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and the provincial Annual Development Programmes (ADPs) responsive to labour intensive propositions, facilitating businesses through fiscal interventions.

The attendees also decided that the body will discuss fiscal proposals with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) including issues relating to sales tax and refunds to fine tune the upcoming budget according to the requirements of the country.
