Islamabad: The federal government has decided to conduct a study to streamline the recruitment process for state-owned enterprises — with a recent report stating that the posts for 96 heads of public sector companies have remained vacant under 26 government ministries and divisions, a news source reported on August 30. The report was presented before the Cabinet Committee on Institutional Reforms by the Establishment Division.

In its recent meeting, the Cabinet committee agreed that such a large number of vacant posts could not be overlooked. The report further identified several issues, including the recruitment process and the salary packages offered, as possible road-blocks. It was ultimately decided that a formal study would have to be conducted in order to identify all related factors that have led to the relatively large number of job vacancies.
The study is expected to be conducted through professional consultants and presented before the committee in five weeks.

Previously, in July 2019, Prime Minister Imran Khan had set a 3-month deadline for the recruitment of personnel for all the vacant posts of various public-sector companies in the country; however, at the time, the ministries and divisions had been unable to meet this target. Consequently, the cabinet committee had begun the process of identifying issues in the entire recruitment process.
