Sargodha: The highway department has decided to spend PKR 17.85 billion on the development of 66 road schemes in Sargodha, a news source reported. This decision was reached during a meeting of the department – presided over by Labour & Human Resource Minister Ansar Majeed Khan – on Wednesday.

For the ongoing financial year, the government has allocated PKR 1.59 billion for these schemes. It has released an amount of PKR 390 million so far. By June 15, the authorities concerned had utilised PKR 9.71 billion on the development of 15 schemes.
During the meeting, the official concerned informed the members about two new schemes cleared under the Annual Development Programme (ADP). They added that these schemes would cost an estimated PKR 600 million. Meanwhile, the officials revealed that the government would also spend PKR 623 million on six schemes as part of the ‘Naya Pakistan Manzilain Asaan Programme’.
Majeed Khan stated that the incumbent government was making efforts for the construction of a better road infrastructure in order to connect rural areas with urban areas. He added that the government would also releasing funds to facilitate the construction of the Sargodha-Jhang and Sargodha-Lahore roads.

Moreover, the minister also issued orders for the removal of encroachments from the main roads.
