Rawalpindi: The Pakistan Railway (PR) has decided to solarise all the large railway stations across the country in a phase-wise manner, news sources reported on January 18. During the first phases, PR has decided to install the solar systems in Rawalpindi Station, Chaklala Station and Margalla Station.

In this regard, the PR has asked the Divisional Superintendent (DS) Railway to prepare a feasibility report of the project. It was also reported that the initiative will assist PR to save huge amounts of money in electricity costs and boost sustainability. In other developments, Afghanistan’s new administration has decided to establish a railway link between Peshawar and Kabul, as well as Peshawar and Jalalabad. The project will be built as part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which will improve the country’s connectivity with the rest of the region.

It is worth noting that the news comes after Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan requested a USD 4.8 billion loan from various International Financial Institutions (IFIs) in December last year for a railway line project connecting Pakistan with Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and the Central Asian Republics.
