Lahore: The Punjab government has publicised the details of major uplift schemes and development projects underway in South Punjab; in addition to notifying the establishment of an administrative unit for the region, a news source reported on September 17.

To this effect, the provincial executive has announced:
- Upgradation of Emerson College to the status of a university
- Establishment of a new campus of MNS University of Engineering and Technology in Lar tehsil
- Establishment of facilities for the production of power wheel chair, smart canes and braille printing press
- Approval for designs for South Punjab secretariat
- Development of a Pilkhan Avenue on the 9.5 kilometre area of Northern Bypass by planting 900 Pilkhan trees
- Financial assistance for lawyers; allocation of 30 kanals of land for construction of a judicial complex and a parking plaza
- Relocation of district jail outside the city
- Relocation of various markets outside the city
