Islamabad: The Ministry of Development and Reforms recently notified its release of PKR 8,176 million for a number of agriculture sector uplift projects, a news source reported. As per the publication, the funds formed part of the total approved budget of PKR 12.047 billion for the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for Financial Year 2019-20 (FY 2019-20).

Additionally, the authorities concerned were also directed to release funds from the Agriculture Emergency Programme that had been initiated by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan. The programme has reportedly been provided with PKR 390 billion funds that are to be spent on the development of the agriculture sector over the next four years. It includes special funds for boosting the productivity of maize, sugarcane, rice, and wheat.

The government had also allocated PKR 4,400 million funds out of PKR 5,500 million under a national programme to enhance the watercourses during the FY 2019-20. The details of the other funds authorised for release during FY 2019-20 are listed below:

- PKR 480 million authorised out of PKR 600 million for the enhancement of oilseed productivity
- PKR 360 million authorised out of PKR 450 million for enhancement of rice growth
- PKR 160 million for sugar cane growth
- PKR 40 million out of PKR 50 million for improving cotton production
- PKR 150 million out of PKR 300 million for making pesticides and fertilisers more effective
- PKR 200 million out of PKR 400 million for the pilot project of establishing a shrimp farming cluster
