Islamabad: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC) Affairs Khalid Mansoor on Monday (December 20) said that the government has set a one-year target to bring 40 companies to the country’s nine Special Economic Zones (SEZs), news sources reported. He said despite the prevailing pandemic, the government has already developed significant parts of the economic zones.

According to reports, Mansoor stated that four economic zones have already begun operations, and numerous firms are establishing facilities, while five more are in the works and would be finished soon. Rashakai, Dhabeji, Allama Iqbal, and Bostan Special Economic Zones are among those that have begun operations. The Islamabad Capital Territory Industrial Zone, Industrial Park Steel Mill, Mirpur Industrial Zone, Mohmand Marble City, and Moqpondass Special Economic Zone in Gilgit Baltistan (GB) are among the ongoing developments.

Mr Mansoor also stated that Pakistan and China are prepared to start the second phase of CPEC, which would include the construction of industrial and agricultural complexes. He emphasised that the completion of these projects will result in socioeconomic growth in the country as well as job opportunities for youth.
