Islamabad: The federal government has announced its decision to set up a ‘Construction & Infrastructure Board’ in a bid to address the concerns of the construction sector, a news source reported. Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday provided his approval to the authority’s formation. Further, the PM instructed the Secretary Planning to formulate a construction development policy in order to facilitate contractors, clients, consultants, and other stakeholders of the industry.

In a meeting with a delegation of the Construction Association of Pakistan, PM Khan observed that the government was making efforts to digitise several processes. He added that this would cut down human interface, establish transparency, and prevent corruption in all business activities.
In response, the delegation proposed various measures to resolve problems faced by constructors. They suggested setting up the Construction & Infrastructure Board, capacity building of the local construction industry, reviewing laws an audit procedures, revisiting the tax regime, tackling the lack of standardisation, and establishing the office of procurement ombudsman.

On his part, PM Khan welcomed the proposals. He added that the present government was committed to proving an enabling environment to the construction industry.
