The experts claim that the satellite tagging will offer new insights into the movement, behaviour and threats faced by these dolphin species. The data gathered from the tags attached to these dolphins will strengthen the conservation plans for not only dolphins but other aquatic species inhabiting the River Indus.

This famous and rare ‘blind’ species of dolphins are only found in Pakistan. However, their population is dipping dangerously and moving closer towards extinction. To prevent a decline in their population, the wildlife department is planning to conduct a survey to analyse the current status of this situation – with assistance from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
WWF-Pakistan Director General (DG) Hammad Naqvi recently said that the number of dolphin species witnessed an increase in the last 15 years; further stating it to be the result of a combined effort of the government, welfare firms and local communities.
