Islamabad: Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan on Monday stated that the government planned to announce new power reforms as well as the details of the speculated reduction in electricity costs within three weeks, a news source reported.

He expressed his views on the matter during a press conference held in the capital city. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Power Shahzad Qasim was also present on the occasion.
Khan added that the executive had finalised new agreements with the independent power producers (IPPs), whereas those with the government power generation plants will be finalised in the upcoming weeks. The minister, however, did not reveal complete details of the savings expected through these agreements; stating that these will be revealed along with the reforms.

He did, however, announce that the government power plants would also decrease their rates as per the agreements with IPPs and that the reforms will be announced to the benefit of country’s industries.
