Islamabad: The federal government has repatriated more than 300,000 stranded Pakistanis back to the country in one of the largest evacuation operations to have been conducted globally in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and its consequent inter-country travel restrictions — a news source reported on July 28.

Speaking on the matter, a senior official of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OP&HRD) stated that the government was able to achieve the feat due to comprehensive coordination measures among all stakeholders. He stated that the task could be completed efficiently because all human and financial resources were mobilised quickly, along with aid by overseas Pakistanis, and effective diplomatic efforts on the government’s part.

The government had brought back nearly 200,000 citizens through special flights by June 20, after which normal flights were resumed. A total of 533 special flights were made between April 1 and June 20 for the purpose.
