Lahore: The government on Wednesday tabled the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Ordinance 2019 and the Port Qasim Authority Bill 2019 among others in the National Assembly (NA), a news source reported. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Swati laid the ordinance seeking establishment of a new authority aimed at facilitating early completion of the CPEC projects.

President Dr Arif Alvi had promulgated the CPEC Authority Ordinance in October ahead of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s visit to China. In November, the government also appointed Lieutenant General (retired) Asim Saleem Bajwa as the CPEC Authority chairman.
Further, the executive introduced the Gwadar Port Authority (Amendment) Bill 2019, the Privatisation Commission (Amendment) Bill 2019, and the Surveying & Mapping (Amendment) Bill 2019.

During the NA session, the lower house also passed a resolution to extend the National Information Technology Board Ordinance 2019. It has provided an additional period of 120 days to the ordinance.
