Islamabad: The federal government has decided to launch Vision 2035 and Vision 2047 in a bid to develop a long-term development roadmap, news sources reported on November 14.

The government has decided to form a steering committee comprising top economists, representatives of the private sector and research institutions in the country that will work directly under the supervision of the Planning Commission’s chief economist. The steering committee will start working at the start of 2023 and will consult all the stakeholders and departments in the country to lay out a detailed plan with objectives and deadlines for the achievement of such tasks. As per the sources, the steering committee will work to achieve development goals in the following seven sectors for inclusive and sustainable growth:

- Developing human and social capital
- Achieving sustained, indigenous and inclusive growth
- Democratic governance
- Institutional reform and modernisation of the public sector
- Energy, water and food security
- Private sector and entrepreneurship-led growth
- Developing a competitive knowledge economy through value addition
- Modernising transportation infrastructure and greater regional connectivity

Moreover, the steering committee will develop a road map based on their assessment of the current position in these sectors and the aspirations and targets for the next 1.5 decades. Similarly, the goals will be set after assessing each point on the following basis:
- Evolving needs and specifies requisite interventions in each sphere on an immediate, mid-term and long-term basis.
- Consideration of the enabling and constraining factors in the process.

Speaking to the media, Chief Economist Dr Nadeem Javed stated that the Pakistan Outlook 2035 strategic document will be aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which range from poverty alleviation to climate change, and on which the government is committed to making credible progress by 2030.
