Lahore: The government has announced its decision to plant 10 million trees this spring under the ‘10 Billion-Tree Tsunami’ (10BTT) plantation programme, a news source reported. To facilitate this measure, the executive is expected to establish 244 nurseries and 363 sale points where the citizens will be able to buy saplings at discounted prices.

The 10BTT programme was launched as part of the ‘Clean & Green Pakistan’ initiative. To this effect, State Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul Wazir recently announced that the government would use GPS technology to monitor its 10BTT programme.
She added that the programme would help people get in touch with district forest officers (DFOs), chief commissioners and other officials responsible for managing tree plantation in their respective domains, monitor progress and give their input and improve plantation in their districts.

She added that the parliamentarians had a key role to play in the success of the programme as well as the initiative to ban the use of plastic bags.
