The executive had approved the said rules earlier this year for the prevention of online content pertaining to hate speech, terrorism, extremism, defamation, incitement to violence, fake news, and national security.
Following the approval, many people expressed their reservations with the Citizen Protection Rules 2020. Therefore, the government decided to conduct consultation with all stakeholders and formed a committee in this regard.
The committee has convened a meeting with different stakeholders today (June 4). The invitation for the meeting states that the committee has organised it in response to concerns of the Digital Rights Forums over the citizen online protection rules passed earlier this year.
