Islamabad: The federal government is considering the possibility of amending certain laws in order to appoint private-sector professionals for various state-run enterprises — a news source reported.

According to the details available, the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Institutional Reforms and Austerity Ishrat Husain has been tasked with identifying the issues that hinder the process to hire private-sector experts. He has also been asked to draft his recommendations on improving the situation.
According to the officials concerned, one of the issues identified with the general practices for private-sector hiring is the use of local advertisements that fail to attract skilled individuals. These experts do not respond to these advertisements, and can only be recruited through headhunting from the private sector.

Reportedly, under the current laws, the government can’t make appointments through headhunting or international advertisements. Hence, the need to change the laws regarding this stipulation. The required changes are expected to be made in the Companies Act and the corporate governance rules.
