Islamabad: The Ministry of Housing and Works notified the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works on Monday (January 10) that the National Construction Limited (NCL) and Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) will be merged soon, according to news reports. The decision was made to enhance the service delivery of government entities as part of the institutional reforms and to reduce the ministry’s losses.

According to sources, the institutional Reform Committee (IRC) and the Ministry of Housing and Works proposed the merger. The committee was informed that the government has already satisfied all of the legislative conditions for NCL’s merger with the FGEHA and that the subject is being considered for approval by the FGEHA Executive Board. It was also revealed that due to the limited number of projects and other related administrative issues, NGL is bearing losses worth millions of rupees for the exchequer. Following the merger, it was told, the runaway expenses and losses will be curbed.

The issue of unlawful constructions and residents in Sector G-14/1 was also examined during the meeting, and the committee urged the Housing Ministry to suspend development activity for the illegal tenants. The committee also urged the government to prioritise the development of several high-rise buildings in the area.
