Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mehmood Khan on Wednesday (December 29) announced the bifurcation of the Malakand Division to better manage resources, news sources reported. The minister said that the headquarters of the new divisions would be finalised after consultation with the people of Chitral and Dir.

As per the news, the minister met with a delegation of political leaders of the division and assured them of the support and the consultation on the matter. During the meeting, the minister apprised the delegates regarding the development projects taking place in Upper and Lower Chitral districts including:
- The Atak irrigation channel for Upper Chitral – which is to be included in the next Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
- Release of funds for the establishment of Chitral University
- Establishment of district headquarter hospitals for Upper and Lower Chitral
- Initiatives for clean drinking water, improved sanitation, and other municipal infrastructure in the newly-constructed Upper Chitral district headquarters in Booni
- Regularization of employees of settlement projects in Upper and Lower Chitral.
- Construction of Dir Motorway under public-private partnership and progress of Dir-Chitral Road

CM Mehmood also said that he would visit both districts and meet with the locals to know their problems and concerns and will issue orders accordingly to address the situation.
