Lahore: The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan announced that Naya Pakistan Housing Authority Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Anwar Ali Haider has informed the Prime Minister (PM) that the tax levied on construction could soon be abolished — once the proposal receives the approval of all provincial governments, a news source reported.

The special assistant revealed this information while talking to the media on Thursday. She stated that the Prime Minister had urged the provincial governments to work on reducing taxes in order to promote the housing and construction sector. She added that the PM had been informed of the steps underway to reduce the rate of Capital Value Tax, as well as the recent issuance of E-stamp papers to facilitate people related to the housing and construction sector.

In addition, the PM has also been apprised of the details about the ease-of-doing-business in housing. For this purpose, an online portal is being launched by the provincial governments, which will link together the government departments that are relevant to the housing sector. Dr Awan said that this will save businessmen and traders from visiting different offices in order to receive no objection certificates.
