Islamabad: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Syed Zulfiqar Bukhari recently announced the federal government’s plan to launch an initiative called ‘Roshan Digital Accounts’ to provide banking access to expat Pakistanis – according to a news report published on August 16.

The SAPM stated that these accounts would allow overseas Pakistanis to make direct payments and investments in the country. He further called the initiative a great investment opportunity for the expat community.
According to the details available, the authorities have already chalked out the details of the plan, and deliberations are ongoing with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and other banks. Additionally, the facility will allow users to benefit from fixed deposit products offered by the banks, and it can also be used for buying property — both residential and commercial.

Reportedly, the accounts can be established in either Pakistani rupee or foreign currency (at the discretion of the non-resident Pakistanis), and people will also be allowed to draw funds from them as and when they please.
