Lahore: Punjab Minister for Local Government Mian Mahmood-ur-Rashid on Wednesday (December 22) announced the unveiling of the Lahore Master Plan on December 31, 2021, news sources reported. The master plan of the city will focus on the development of sustainable urban infrastructure.

As per the news, during a provincial assembly questions session, the minister said that the new master plan will help reduce the growing population problems and the increasing pressure on resources. This plan will also focus on the regularisation of illegal housing schemes built on either state or agricultural land. The minister also stated that the initiative will contribute to the city’s sustainability. Recently, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has held seminars to consult foreign specialists and engineers, as well as members of the general public in a bid to take their suggestions into account while planning the city’s infrastructure. According to LDA sources, the plan would focus on four areas: smart city infrastructure, urban transit, urban governance, pollution, and regularisation of urban developments.

It is crucial to note that the Lahore Master Plan has been in the works since 2019, and the government has recommended developing master plans for all of the province’s major cities to assist them to prepare for future issues.
