Islamabad: Officials on Monday revealed that the government was expected to introduce the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Ordinance 2020 soon; further stating that the aim of the ordinance was to implement competition and transparency during awarding of mega projects, a news source reported.

According to details, the Ministry of Planning had solicited the approval for the proposed PPP Ordinance 2020 from the federal cabinet via a summary. The summary stated that there was a significant need for creating an environment for public private partnerships (PPPs) by streamlining the approval process of mega projects and creating a framework for policy guidelines. To this effect, the draft PPP Ordinance 2020 has been submitted for the cabinet’s consideration.

Experts on the matter have established that public private partnerships were an effective method for leveraging the expertise and efficiency of the private sector for the purposes of delivering enhanced public sector services.
