Following their retrieval from the illegitimate occupants, the properties belonging to former Pakistani citizens who migrated to Bangladesh after 1971 will be reassigned and repurposed. In this regard, a summary has been sent by the Cabinet Division to the federal government for final approval. As per the reports, the federal government will take steps in order to ensure that the properties are managed and administered in accordance with the Abandoned Properties (Management) Act, 1975, and the instructions of the federal government.
The federal cabinet is expected to approve a set of proposals, including the one suggesting that one of the 10 houses may be reserved for the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, who has no designated official accommodation in the city.

It is important to note that the APO is an autonomous body established on February 12, 1975, under the Abandoned Properties (Management) Act, 1975. Under Sections 28 and 29, read with Section 4 (2) of the Act, the federal government has the requisite powers to administer the properties’ regulations and repurpose the land.
