Islamabad: The government on Wednesday announced that it would hire an international consultant for the execution of the Main Line (ML)-1 railway project, a news source reported. It will engage the consultant to prepare the human resource structures, develop business and cash flow models, and prepare the governance components of the project – part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.

Previously, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) had recommended the ML-1 railway project to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval. Meanwhile, the Railways Ministry plans to start physical work on the project from January 2021. The ministry is also in process of hiring consultants for creating the Terms of reference (TORs) for engaging the international consultant. On the other hand, the ministry had also extended the Request for Proposal (RFP) submission date to June 10.

According to sources, the government has chosen the upgradation of the ML-1 as an Early Harvest project under the CPEC initiative.
