Islamabad: Norwegian Hydro Company (NOR Hydro) and the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government have teamed up to advance sustainable energy production in the region, claimed a news source on October 23.

As per the details, a significant investment agreement was formalized in Islamabad, marking a crucial milestone for Gilgit-Baltistan’s energy sector. Under the agreement, NOR Hydro will invest in hydro and solar energy projects, starting with Skardu in Baltistan. The focus includes enhancing existing powerhouses, establishing a 4.5-megawatt solar park for eco-friendly electricity, and working on advanced hydroelectric technology projects related to water and power.

The signing ceremony, attended by GB Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan and Norwegian Ambassador Per Albert Ilsaas, was characterized by gratitude and mutual acknowledgement. The CM Khan praised Norway’s role in the region’s progress, while the Norwegian Ambassador expressed confidence in Gilgit-Baltistan’s growth and the potential of the private sector.
