Islamabad: The government is expected to approve the promulgation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority ordinance in its meeting scheduled for September 17, a news source reported. If approved, the CPEC Authority will monitor the work on the CPEC projects that involve a third party besides Beijing and Islamabad.

According to sources, the Cabinet Committee for Disposal of Legislative Cases had prepared a draft for the ordinance. It later forwarded the document to the cabinet for notifying and promulgating the ordinance.
The committee informed the cabinet members that the CPEC project was entering its next phase. It added that this phase would expand the CPEC initiative to additional economic areas (including Gwadar development), along with the involvement of third parties for investment.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary committee on CPEC has expressed concerns over the establishment of the CPEC Authority. It has stated that this measure would create more confusion pertaining to the CPEC projects.
