Islamabad: The government has announced a project to provide the capital city with 100 million gallons of water on a daily basis, a news source reported. Minister for Planning Asad Umar announced the initiative during the foundation ceremony of the Islamabad Model College for Girls in the capital city’s G-13 sector.

Umar said that the executive was committed to fulfilling its promise of development in Islamabad. He said that the project will provide the said volume of water to the capital city from Ghazi Barotha dam through pipelines.

He further stated that the swift completion of the water supply project was one of the government’s top priorities. He said that his government was completing uplift schemes in a transparent manner.

Previously, the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) had expressed reservations with regard to the water scarcity problem in the capital city. In response, the minister had directed the officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to revise the Islamabad master plan and to ensure the completion of water supply projects on a timely basis.
