Lahore: The Punjab Government has directed the Lahore Waste Management Authority (LWMC) to prepare a revised plan for the cleanliness of the city within two weeks, according to a news source. Senior Punjab Minister Abdul Aleem Khan issued these orders. He reaffirmed that the plan would not come with any weekly holiday provision.
Khan held a meeting with LWMC Managing Director Khalid Nazir Wattoo. They decided that all Saturday-offs would be cancelled, and waste would also be collected on Sundays.
The minister further directed the LWMC to divide Lahore into 14 zones for this purpose. These zones will be based on National Assembly constituencies. Khan also encouraged the LWMC to forge closer links with other government agencies – in order to attain the best results.
He also emphasised on the need for improving employee efficiency, and directed that it should be rewarded or penalised; depending on the case.
Wattoo inspected different areas of the city to observe their sanitation conditions. These sites included the Lakhoder landfill site, LWMC compost plant, and the Mehmood Booti dumpsite.
