Lahore: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) plans to recover dues from various government departments – a news source reported.
The water body has been dealing with a financial crisis lately. This has resulted from the concerned government departments owing millions of rupees to the agency in terms of unpaid water bills.

Sources close to WASA said that 12 federal and 36 provincial departments have yet to pay their dues.
According to details, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has to pay PKR 40.9 million to the agency. Similarly, other government departments owe WASA a collective amount in excess of a hundred million rupees. These include the departments of income tax, civil defence, health, and higher education.

Director Recovery Muhammad Nadeem said WASA has made ample notifications of its plans. He added that non-compliance will lead to termination of water connections.
Meanwhile, WASA has devised a six-year plan which aims to identify and resolve financial loopholes. The agency intends to eliminate its reliance on government subsidies.
