Islamabad: The caretaker government plans to launch a massive crackdown on the illegal gold trade and the smugglers involved in the black market, using intelligence and law enforcement institutions, according to news sources published on September 15.

It has been announced that measures will soon be imposed to bring gold dealers into the tax net, and a computerised system for buying and selling precious metals will be devised. Additionally, a task force has been organized to initiate decisive action against the gold trade and smugglers. To achieve these goals, the government has developed a strategy aimed at benefiting both the people and the country.

It’s worth noting that the price of gold has decreased from PKR 236,000 per tola to PKR 214,000 over the last two weeks. Sources have reported that traders are even suspending the issuance of bullion rates in response to the crackdown by authorities.
