Islamabad: Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Petroleum Division Nadeem Babar chaired a meeting on Monday to discuss setting up various underground gas storage areas to meet the country’s ever-growing requirements, a news source reported. Reportedly, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has also proposed to help Pakistan increase its gas storage capacity.

Additionally, the meeting was briefed that European gas companies are also part of the project for installing new gas infrastructure, which would help avert the looming crisis of gas shortage in the country – for both residences and industries alike – during the upcoming winter season.

Reportedly, the assessment report on the project will be prepared by May next year (2021) – which will decide the blueprint for the volume of the storage, modules and its security. A budget will be allocated to the project, based on the report, to immediately tackle the upcoming shortage issue in its nascence.
