Islamabad: Advisor to the Prime Minister (PM) on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood on Wednesday emphasised the country’s economic need for availing trade opportunities and forming linkages with new, international markets in the post-COVID-19 world, a news source reported.

He further stated that the government would avail opportunities to strengthen bilateral trade ties and access new international markets in the Asian States, African region, and Central Europe.

Dawood said that the government was considering all sectors including agriculture, engineering, textile, and non-textile sectors to boost the exports in the coming months. He said that the country’s exports had declined in April by 54 percent as compared to the same month of the previous fiscal year.

He said that the government would prioritise ‘Made in Pakistan’ policy to reduce dependence on imports and boost local production to increase exports of the country. He also said that the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) was planning to make changes in the tariff structure during the next fiscal year in order to facilitate local production.
