Rawalpindi: The Punjab Government has announced its decision to construct four new small dams for Rawalpindi — targeted to meet the city’s rising water demands, a news source reported. As per the publication, the construction of these dams is estimated to cost PKR 20 billion.

According to the details available, the approved dams are Daducha Dam, Mujahid Dam, Papin Dam and Mahuta Mohra Dam. The construction of these dams will be undertaken by the Small Dams Organisation and is expected to end the issues pertaining to access to clean drinking water in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. In addition, the dams are also projected to feature a power station that can help produce cheap electricity.

Out of the aforementioned dams, Daducha Dam is the largest water reservoir and it will supply 25 million gallons (of water) per day to Rawalpindi and its suburban areas. The land acquisition process for this dam has already been completed.

Development work at Mujahid Dam site is already underway, while work on Papin and Mahuta Mohra Dams will be initiated in the first quarter of 2020.
