Islamabad: The government has informed the parliamentary committee on COVID-19 that it plans on allowing low-risk industries to resume operations – a news source reported. Further, several government officials have contended that the continued functioning of some industries is critical to keep up the supply of necessities in the country.

The meeting, held in parliament on Thursday, was chaired by National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser.
During the session, Adviser to the PM on Finance Dr Hafeez Shaikh briefed the committee regarding the steps being taken by the government to offset the economic impact of the pandemic. He said that the government had approved an incentive package for the economy; in addition to releasing PKR 1.5 billion for the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), as well as establishing a special fund worth PKR 100 billion to meet the country’s energy requirements.

He also stated that the government had announced a number of tax exemptions to provide relief to the people during this testing time.
