Islamabad: The federal government has begun implementing its plan to re-employ overseas Pakistanis laid off due the coronavirus pandemic — a news source reported today (July 6). These skilled workers will be provided both technical and financial assistance under various initiatives; including the government’s Ehsaas programme and the Kamyab Jawan programme.

In addition, the overseas ministry launched a portal to document such laid-off workers — with nearly 40,000 individuals having already registered through the online utility. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfiqar Bukhari said that the government had begun making efforts to create job opportunities for the skilled workers who are returning to Pakistan after losing their jobs abroad.

He said that such workers will also be provided assistance under the Ehsaas Programme. He added that efforts were underway to facilitate Pakistani labourers on the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, and that their safe repatriation was also one of the priorities of the government.
