Haripur: The federal government has allocated PKR 950 million for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of GT Road section running through Haripur city, news sources reported on December 26.

The GT Road Haripur project would involve the reconstruction of a 26-kilometre-long stretch of road between Jhari Kas and Shah Maqsood. As per the Project Concept-1 (PC-1), the project is divided into three sections, including a 9.5-kilometre-long Jhari Kass to Panian road, a 6.5-kilometre-long road from Panian to Darwesh, and a 9.5-kilometre-long road from Darwesh to Shah Maqsood. Work on the first section has already begun, while the work order for the second section is expected to be issued within the next couple of days. The reconstruction is scheduled to be completed within six months. It is important to mention that this effort to reconstruct the GT Road is the latest in a series of developments to improve the condition of the highway.

In 2018, the government approved the widening of the Daidan Bridge on the GT Road, while the National Highway Authority (NHA) had previously widened the road between Abbottabad and Haripur city. This development significantly reduced the travel time for commuters and helped to reduce road accidents.
