Islamabad: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (PM) on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation Dr Sania Nishtar has announced that the government is geared to set up 33 development centres under the Ehsaas Nash-o-Numa programme — with the initiative aimed at protecting new born children from stunted growth, a news source reported. The programme is scheduled for inauguration today (Thursday) by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.

As per the programme, the government will provide specialized nutritious food to pregnant and lactating mothers and their children under the age of 24 months.

Funds worth PKR 8.5 billion have been allocated for the project, and 221,000 mothers from 9 districts of the country will be provided PKR 2,000 on a quarterly basis for a healthy diet. At the same time, PKR 2,000 (for girls) and PKR 1,500 (for boys) will also be provided for children up to the age of two years.
