Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has authorised the allotment of 149 acres of land for the development of Islamabad’s first Special Technology Zone (STZ), news sources reported on January 03. The area will be utilised by the Special Technology Zone Authority (STZA) and will only be available for the use of information technology (IT) enterprises.

As per the news, the land has been allotted in the Chak Shahzad area of the capital city. Talking on the occasion STZA Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mr Masroor Ahmed Qureshi said that the prime minister has tasked STZA with the establishment of technology zones in all provinces in the country and special by-laws to this effect will be created in collaboration with provincial governments and the Capital Development Authority (CDA). Similarly, STZA will manage and regulate these technology zones where multinational and national enterprises can set up offices.

Furthermore, Qureshi stated that STZA has received 39 applications from various sectors so far, with a decision still in waiting. He further stated that the premier has authorised the transformation of Lahore’s Knowledge Park into a Special Technology Zone. Similarly, the federal government has directed that 14 additional STZ be established around the country in all provinces.
