The government of Punjab, in an attempt to bridge the gap between the northern part of Lahore and the main city, has approved the budget for the construction of a new bridge on River Ravi. The move was welcomed by many, as the traffic situation was getting worse on the available routes by every passing day. The huge load of vehicles is a staggering blow to those who wish to travel from Downtown Lahore to Shahdara in the north and the Metro Bus Service is making things worse.
Considering the weight of the Metro Bus coupled with the added weight of the passengers, need of an alternate route was highly in demand as the old Ravi Bridge was creaking under the heavy load. Also fuelling the frustrations of many were the heavy traffic jams which were seen as an outcome of alarming increase of population in the city.
To neutralise the concerns of the citizens and subsequent trouble faced by them, the Government of Punjab finally executed the decision it made previously and gathering sufficient funds, it managed to approve the construction plan. The total cost of the project stands at a staggering high amount of Rs789.34 million. The new bridge shall also accommodate a separate route for the Metro Bus Service.
The bridge is a part of the three packages of the development plans regarding logistics of the city. The approved development plan includes the relocation and acquisition of Utilities for Lahore Ring Road (LRR) Master Plan Package-1 and it will constitute a total cost of Rs9.95 billion. The package 2 for LRR, which is designed to provide an alternate land to existing residents was approved at a revised cost of 9.9 billion. The package 3 costs 8.67 billion for the same purpose.
The said moves by the provincial government are deemed as healthy for the real estate of Lahore as ease of access adds to the value of a locality. Now with the construction of a new bridge on river Ravi, the property market of northern Lahore is destined to an imminent boom, which will benefit many and may trigger further development plans in this area.
Might be said to be a good decision. But another important longstanding need of the area is also a rail road overhead bridge at Imamia Colony level crossing.
Yes, I AGREE WITH THE COMMENTS OF MR. ZIA MIAN. IT IS URGENT NEED OF COMMON PEOPLES WHO ARE TRAVELING BETWEEN LAHORE AND GUJRANWALA AS WELL AS RESIDENTS OF IMAMIA COLONY, SHAHDARA. A NEW OVERHEAD BRIDGE AT IMAMIA COLONY RAILWAY CROSSING IS ESSENTIAL AND NEEDS FOCUS OF HIGHER AUTHORITIES WHO ARE PLANNING FOR LAHORE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS.
yess i am agree the same thought of school, govt op punjab also should be take a seriously responsibility in the shahdara developments and bridge plan….
My suggestion is different and impossible for LDA…
“First LDA should make an Temporary Road around the Shahdara Mor, which covers all traffic during construction of Shahdara Mor. Bridge/Overfly.”
Because if we talk about the traffic of Shahdara Mor.
This is already badly disturb (My words will remain less as i talk about traffic of shahdara mor.).
