Islamabad: Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunications Syed Aminul Haq has urged Google to open a compliance office in Islamabad to ensure that any disputes can be quickly resolved, news sources reported on December 14.

Minister Aminul Haq said that the government has made essential and crucial changes in the country’s cyber laws to accommodate and attract new companies. He said this in a meeting with a Google delegation led by Kyle Gardner, public policy manager in South Asia. The minister invited google to get the benefits of new policies and establish a compliance office in Islamabad and discussed investment opportunities. The delegation was informed about the country’s new laws regarding data protection. He also informed the delegate of the progress made with other international technology companies such as Facebook and other companies regarding setting up offices in the country.

The delegation also discussed new investment opportunities during the meeting. Google had earlier launched career certifications and a suicide hotline in Pakistan to tackle mental health issues.
