Kohat: A formal mining operation to extract gold reserves along the banks of the Indus River has officially begun in the Resai area of Kohat.
The project was inaugurated by spiritual leader Pir Syed Safdar Gilani in a ceremony attended by local notables and officials. The gold extraction is being carried out by Himalaya Company, which has secured official lease rights from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government through a competitive bid of Rs3.5 billion.

Speaking at the event, Colonel (Retd) Sadiq Sultan, patron of Himalaya Company, said that the firm had acquired mining rights for Blocks B and C along the riverbank. He expressed hope that the project would create employment opportunities for local communities while contributing to the national economy.
He also urged the government to take strict action against ongoing illegal gold extraction in the area, which he said was undermining regulated efforts and causing economic losses.
Pir Safdar Gilani called attention to Pakistan’s rich natural resources and mineral wealth, encouraging collective efforts to responsibly utilize these assets for the country’s development.

CEO of Himalaya Company, Wing Commander (Retd) Liaqat Sultan, noted that vast gold reserves exist along the Indus River. He emphasized that legal and regulated mining could significantly boost both local livelihoods and broader economic growth.
