Gujranwala: The Gujranwala Metropolitan Corporation (GMC) has initiated legal action against tax defaulters and submitted relevant documents before a special magistrate to initiate the proceedings against them, a news source reported. To this effect, the GMC has identified 2,326 individuals who have defaulted on due license fee and tax payments.

GMC has taken the step in order to improve its financial affairs and to expedite the revenue recovery process. The cases were forwarded by District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Humayun Imtiaz and will be heard by a Special Judicial Magistrate.

Previously, GMC in its notices sent to the defaulters had warned them of legal action in case of non-compliance. Now the authorities concerned have commenced with legal action against these individuals under the Punjab Local Government Act 2019.
