Zurich: The global demand for cement is expected to grow by 1.5% next year according to statistics from World Cement Association (WCA) in a news reported. The growth is an improvement on the decline in cement volumes during 2018 or the 1% increase during 2017.
The expected growth is depending on the situation in China which consumes more than half of the world’s cement. The cement demand has been on decline in China for the past two years, however, it is expected to grow by 0.5%.
The growth in the rest of world is expected to decrease down to 2.8% from 2018’s 3.3%.
According to WCA, the slowdown is because of rising economic risks and companies’ shuttering plants to tackle over-capacity. The WCA forecasts that 2019 will be a year of subdued demand for world cement market, and the outlook will be weaker than the preceding years.
