Reportedly, the prime minister is likely to visit Skardu and officiate the road infrastructure’s inauguration. This project was revived in 2017 and has taken four years to complete. However, it was highlighted that tunnels and alignments – which were designed as part of an upgrade plan designed by the Frontier Works Organisation – have not been developed.

It has been highlighted that the new Jaglot to Skardu Road has been enhanced at various points which includes widening of road and constructions where it was missing. The route was familiar to locals despite its sharp and dangerous turns, however, it was avoided by tourists who preferred to travel by air or visit other easily accessible places.
Originally developed by FWO in 1984, the road has been in bad condition owing to the heavy snowfall and frequent landslides.
