Gilgit: Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Chief Minister (CM) Khalid Khurshid Khan has inaugurated the first software technology park in the region, according to news published on July 16.

As per the details, the software technology park is set up in the Chilisdas area of the city that will provide basic facilities, free internet, and coworking space for the employees of 20 information technology companies. CM Khalid Khurshid Khan, speaking at the ceremony, mentioned that the province is the first to offer co-working space and free internet for the IT sector. He went on to say that the development of the IT sector is a priority of the government.

Moreover, it was disclosed that a project worth PKR 1 billion has been approved for establishing technology parks in all districts of the region. Reportedly, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Karakoram Cooperative Bank and the GB IT department for projects under the e-employment scheme in order to generate employment and business opportunities for the IT sector.
